Pim Van Loon (Netherlands, AU15)
President
Pim holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's degree in International Relations, both from the University of Amsterdam. He conducted part of his studies at the Hong Kong University and he was an associate at Global Policy Forum, a research oriented NGO based in New York City. After his studies Pim entered the Dutch National Government where he has been working for the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2009, Pim participated in the 15th ASEF University at the Woosuk University in Korea. He has been an active member of ASEFUAN ever since.
Cathy Pabalan Frideres (Philippines, AU2)
Vice-President
Cathy has an undergraduate degree in European Studies from De La Salle University and an M.A. in International Studies and Diplomacy from the London-based School of Oriental and African Studies. She is a believer in the importance of education, people-to-people exchanges and leadership development. Cathy oversaw the Adopt-a-School Programme for the Philippine Department of Education prior to joining the People-to-People Exchange team at ASEF in 2000, where she was responsible for education, youth and leadership exchange programmes until 2005. While studying for her Masters, she acted as Project Consultant for the Asia Department at the British Museum, and worked on the first Asia-Europe Travelling Exhibition on portraiture. Cathy moved to the private sector in 2006 and is currently Director of Rosetta Translation Ltd. She served as ASEFUAN President in 2005/2006.
Andreas Wiese (Germany, AU16)
Treasurer
Andreas is currently pursuing a Master of Studies in Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford. His main research interest lies in East Asia. He recently spent one year at Peking University in Beijing, which completed his undergraduate studies at the Europe-Asia Campus of Sciences Po Paris located in Le Havre. There, he studied comparative Asian and European law, economics, history and politics. He is active in global youth networks such as Global Changemakers, a programme managed by the British Council, which sent him as Germany's youth representative to the G20 Summit in London in 2009. In Le Havre, he was Convenor of the Sciences Po Intervarsity Debate Tournament 2010 and organizer of the Model ASEM 2009. Andreas likes cooking, hiking and traveling.
Qian Sun (China, AU17)
Secretary
Qian holds an undergraduate degree in Sports Journalism and communications from the Beijing Sport University. She is currently pursuing her Masters at the University of Leipzig/the University of Wroclaw, majoring in “Global Study–a European perspective”. Her dual research interests are globalization and international media. During her undergraduate years, she worked as an assistant director of International Olympic Committee and produced a series of short videos on Beijing's traditional culture, which were featured in 2008 as part of the exhibition of the International Olympic Committee Museum in Switzerland. She worked for the media relations office of Delaware State University, USA as an intern, and she is currently serving her internship for Thomson Reuters. An out-going, adaptable and amicable “world citizen”, Qian is always ready to discover other young talents from all over the world.
Romain Caillaud (France, AU11)
External Affairs Manager
Romain holds an M.A. in International Relations from Sciences Po Paris and degrees in Myanmar Studies from the Paris Institute of Oriental Languages and from the Yangon University of Foreign Languages. He has been based in Yangon, Myanmar since 2008, where he oversees socio-economic research projects for Myanmar Marketing Research & Development (MMRD), a consulting firm. His keen interest in ancient and contemporary Asia has led him to travel extensively in the region. He attended the 11th ASEF University in Paris and has been an active member of ASEFUAN since 2005, serving a term as Vice President for the Executive Committee 2005/2006.
Krystle Wong (Malaysia, AU15)
Internal Affairs Manager
Krystle recently returned from the University of California, San Diego where she spent a year as a visiting undergraduate majoring in Economics and Spanish. This completes her Bachelor's degree at Sciences Po Paris's Europe-Asia Campus in Le Havre, where she studied comparative European and Asian history, politics and economics as well as French and Hindi. An aesthete with a passion for writing and public policy, she is now a candidate for a Dual Masters Degree in Journalism and International Economic Policy at Sciences Po Paris. Throughout her time in college, she has held leadership positions in international peer groups related to arts, writing and debate, including editorial positions at four magazines and newsletters. She has also worked as a writer at two print newspapers, once as a business journalist and another time as a film critic. She is crazy about traveling, books, graphic novels, writing and drawing.
